The National
President Emmanuel S.
Wettee of the Union of
Liberian Associations in
the Americas (ULAA) is
today in Washington,
D.C. participating in
the Liberia Private
Sector Investment Forum,
organized by the
International Finance
Corporation and the
Overseas Private
Investment Corporation,
the Corporate Council on
Africa (CCA), in
cooperation and
co-sponsorship with the
Government of Liberia.
The Forum is being held
at the Grand Hyatt
Washington in
Washington, D.C.
The Forum is showcasing
trade and investment
opportunities in vital
sectors such as
agriculture, mining and
natural resources, power
generation and
electricity,
construction and
infrastructure
development,
transportation, and
tourism and hospitality.
The goal is to
strengthen the
international business
community’s commitment
to Liberia by bringing
together businesses to
learn about investment
incentives and
opportunities in the
"new" Liberia.
During the session
earlier in the day, the
ULAA National President
seized the opportunity
to meet and introduce
himself as the new ULAA
President to Liberian
President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
The Liberian President
warmly received the new
ULAA Boss.
Mr. Wettee, up to press
time had also met with a
line-up of Liberian
Government officials,
including Foreign
Minister George Wallace,
Defense Minister Brownie
Samukai, and
Presidential Press
Secretary Cyrus Badio.
Among ULAA personalities
with whom the ULAA
President interacted at
the Forum were Former
National Executive Vice
President Morris T.
Koffa and Former
National Board member
Emmanuel Toe, who are at
the Forum representing
other entrepreneurial
interests.
On Wednesday, February
14, 2007, the Union was
represented at the
Liberia Donors
Conference by National
General Secretary Isaac
S. Zawolo, Jr. and ULAA
D.C. Chapter President
Boniface Satu. This
delegation met some
Government officials
including Education
Minister Joseph Z. Korto,
Gender Development
Minister Varba Gayflor,
and Deputy Health
Minister Mohammed
Sheriff.
In a related
development, the ULAA
National President will
tomorrow, February 16,
participate in
ceremonies marking the
dedication of the newly
established Library at
the Liberian Embassy
near Washington, D.C.
Her Excellency, Madam
Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf,
President of the
Republic of Liberia, is
set to cut the ribbon to
the new facility.
Invitation to attend the
dedication ceremony was
extended ULAA by
Liberian Ambassador
Charles Minor on
February 2, 2007 at a
meeting with the ULAA
delegation at the
Liberian Embassy. The
Chairman of the ULAA
National Board of
Directors, Mr. Anthony
V. Kesselly is expected
to join the National
President at the
ceremony in Washington,
D.C.
