ULAA PARTAKES IN CRITICAL FORUMS ON LIBERIA IN D.C.

Bryan’s Road, Maryland (February 15, 2007): The National President Emmanuel S. Wettee of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) is today in Washington, D.C. participating in the Liberia Private Sector Investment Forum, organized by the International Finance Corporation and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA), in cooperation and co-sponsorship with the Government of Liberia.  The Forum is being held at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, D.C.

The Forum is showcasing trade and investment opportunities in vital sectors such as agriculture, mining and natural resources, power generation and electricity, construction and infrastructure development, transportation, and tourism and hospitality.  The goal is to strengthen the international business community’s commitment to Liberia by bringing together businesses to learn about investment incentives and opportunities in the "new" Liberia.

During the session earlier in the day, the ULAA National President seized the opportunity to meet and introduce himself as the new ULAA President to Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The Liberian President warmly received the new ULAA Boss.

Mr. Wettee, up to press time had also met with a line-up of Liberian Government officials, including Foreign Minister George Wallace, Defense Minister Brownie Samukai, and Presidential Press Secretary Cyrus Badio.

Among ULAA personalities with whom the ULAA President interacted at the Forum were Former National Executive Vice President Morris T. Koffa and Former National Board member Emmanuel Toe, who are at the Forum representing other entrepreneurial interests.

On Wednesday, February 14, 2007, the Union was represented at the Liberia Donors Conference by National General Secretary Isaac S. Zawolo, Jr. and ULAA D.C. Chapter President Boniface Satu. This delegation met some Government officials including Education Minister Joseph Z. Korto, Gender Development Minister Varba Gayflor, and Deputy Health Minister Mohammed Sheriff.

In a related development, the ULAA National President will tomorrow, February 16, participate in ceremonies marking the dedication of the newly established Library at the Liberian Embassy near Washington, D.C.

Her Excellency, Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia, is set to cut the ribbon to the new facility.  Invitation to attend the dedication ceremony was extended ULAA by Liberian Ambassador Charles Minor on February 2, 2007 at a meeting with the ULAA delegation at the Liberian Embassy.  The Chairman of the ULAA National Board of Directors, Mr. Anthony V. Kesselly is expected to join the National President at the ceremony in Washington, D.C.
